SAILING TOTEM
Shoutout for how well the log we used on this passage performed in those conditions. @backstay.marine's Offshore Logbook lived in the cockpit from Hawaii to the Marshall Islands and was doused a few times, but it's printed on paper that's basically impervious to getting wet (anyone know Rite in the Rain? Yeah, that stuff!). Impressive!

JOHN KRETSCHMER
We broke out a new logbook, big stuff on Quetzal. We are trying the Offshore Logbook by backstay.ink. Previously we filled several ‘Sailor’s Logbooks’ from Starpath. Most entries are by the crew, at least after every watch. The best log-keeping award definitely goes to father/daughter team, Lauren and David Kriet from our Patagonia passage last year! Our logbooks tell a long story, 22 years of voyaging on Quetzal and 200,000 miles.

PELAGIC BLUE CRUISING
Keeping an hourly log at sea and regularly plotting your positive offshore should be the very minimum as far as recordkeeping while underway. Grab one of our offshore logbooks from @backstay.marine for that. We are also keen on documenting things like:
🪛Detailed project notes including photos, materials, and costs
⛽️Fuel efficiency and fill ups
💦Water consumption rates
⚓️Favorite anchorages
🪨Uncharted hazards (on the rocks, anyone?)
🗺️Navigation notes from locals
🎣Fishing gear for the area
